Painkiller: Hell and Damnation is the King of unsophisticated shooters, and that’s not an insult. It doesn’t pretend to be complicated or “deep”; its just unashamed, unrelenting shooty blasty fun.
A retro arcade shooter, Painkiller harkens back to a simpler time: You are a dude, you have a gun, these things are in your way, you must kill them, the end. I have no more complex or nuance thought on the game, it’s just fun. The hectic action reminds me of shooters of old, but with a far prettier coat of paint.
So if you’re looking for a first-person-shooter that allows you to murder hundreds of enemies with a huge arsenal of interesting and varied weapons to a kick ass soundtrack, then Painkiller Hell and Damnation is the game for you.
